CALL FOR PROPOSALS
The Office for Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement (ODECE) invites students, staff, and faculty to submit proposals for workshops, panels, poster sessions, and presentations for the 4th Annual Diversity Summit: Embracing Diversity and Inclusion at GW. The Diversity Summit aims to create a space for attendees to engage in critical, thoughtful, and challenging dialogue to inform how we understand ourselves, the larger landscape of higher education, and ways to continue building the most inclusive campus climates on individual and communal levels. The ODECE welcomes proposals that reflect best practices, current research, and groundbreaking ideas in creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive campus environment.
The Diversity Summit will focus on (1) race and racism (2) bias (3) sexuality and gender, and (4) religion, faith, spirituality, and beliefs. A variety of sessions will be provided that invite attendees to bring their full selves into the space in order to think in deeper and more complex ways about these foci areas.
Proposals should be submitted electronically via Google form to the Office for Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement no later than 11:59pm on Thursday, October 11, 2018. Notifications will be sent for all submissions by Thursday, October 18, 2018. Please email the Diversity Summit Committee at [email protected] or call (202) 994-7434 with any questions.
Program proposal topics could include:
- Building Inclusive Classrooms
- Diversity in Fraternity and Sorority Life
- Creating an accessible campus
- Being an Advocate for Social Justice
- Competencies for Creating Inclusive Diverse Communities
- Leadership Development in the Current Landscape
- Enhancing Campus Racial Relations
Program proposals could engage questions such as, but not limited to, the following:
- How do we demonstrate cultural inclusion in our campus community?
- How do we understand disability beyond legal compliance, and create syllabi, assignments, classroom spaces, and social spaces that are accessible to all?
- How do we foster interfaith communities on a multi-faith college campus?
- How do we work to prevent sexual assault and strengthen institutional support for survivors?
- How does class impact campus diversity and inclusion?
- How do we get students, staff, and faculty to identify and explore their implicit biases?
- What is inclusive language on a college campus?
- How do sexuality and sexual orientation impact our daily lives?
- How do we work towards solidarity as a community?
- How do our multiple identities inform our lived experiences?
- How do we examine our own attitudes toward bullying and bias?
